Abstract

1282364 Electronic musical instruments M RANZATO 1 July 1970 [11 July 1969 10 June 1970] 31969/70 Heading G4J An electronic musical instrument for simulating the sound emitted from a stringed instrument comprises an oscillator 18, a preamplifier 17, a set of buttons 3 which, when actuated, apply a diminishing potential to the pre-amplifier, an amplifier 19 and a loudspeaker 20. The frequency of the oscillator is determined by keys 4, which, when depressed, short circuit the respective resistors 13. The diminishing potential is produced by allowing the capacitor 8 to discharge through the preamplifier 17. The note may be terminated by means of the contact 14<SP>1</SP>, which allows the capacitor to discharge direct to earth. When simulating a guitar, the keys 4 may be situated along the neck of a guitar and the buttons 3 may be placed on the sound box of the guitar. Thus each button 3, and its associated set of keys 4 represent each string of the guitar. When simulating a piano, the contact 14 may be omitted, and switches corresponding to the continue and soft pedals may be employed. For a piano, the circuit is modified so that the note sounds when the button is depressed, and not when it is released, as is the case with the guitar.
