Abstract

1385765 Electrophonic musical instruments ELECTRONIC MUSIC STUDIOS (LONDON) Ltd 6 April 1972 16008/72 Heading G5J [Also in Division G1] An electronic music synthesizer incorporates a front panel as illustrated in Fig. 4 which panel also represents the main electronic sections of the synthesizer which comprises two audio, voltage controlled oscillators 39, 40, an audio and subsonic V.C.O. 41, a white and coloured noise generator 42; a multipurpose filter, resonator and oscillator 43 with adjustable bandwidth and frequency, a ring modulator 44, an envelope shaper with manual controls for attack, on, decay and off times, a reverberation unit 46, a joystick 47 for producing two manually adjustable voltages by up and down or side to side joystick motion, a monitoring meter 48, input amplifiers 49 with level controls, output amplifiers 50 with level control and output filters 51. The components mentioned are interconnectable by patch board 52. Other features include monitoring speakers 53, input and output jacksockets 54 and input socket 53. An adaptation of the synthesizer as described with reference to Fig. 5 and to Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown). One embodiment comprises thirty conductive pads 1 forming a proximity switch keyboard (see Division G1) covered by a plastics layer on which is printed the configuration of a conventional piano keyboard. Seven similar pads are also provided, four denoted 56 produce transpositions of a semitone, tone, major third or perfect fifth or combinations thereof by touching corresponding key combinations. Pad 57 initiates a "play" mode, 58 a "record" mode and 59 a random tone. Pitch interval between the notes may be varied by a register (79) to the output of which is connected feedback amplifier (109) the output signal from which controls the oscillator 40 and the feedback path of which contains resistor (110) variable by one of the four knobs 60-63.
