Abstract

1282016 Vapourizers, fuel injectors B T CROFT and M VEAL 20 July 1970 [21 July 1969] 36572/69 Heading F1B A fuel injector comprises electric spark means 7, 8 for vapourizing fuel in a chamber 1 having non- return valves 4, 5 at its inlet and outlet 2, 3 operable so that the vapourization causes the inlet valve to close and the outlet valve to open to allow vapourized fuel to be injected from the chamber directly or indirectly into an I. C, engine cylinder. The electrodes are connected across the secondary winding of a transformer, the primary winding of which receives intermittent voltage pulses in synchronism with the engine speed. Fuel quantity is controlled by the strength or the number of sparks for each vapourization. The fuel may be controlled by a device which senses the unburnt fuel or polluting elements in the exhaust gas.
