Abstract

1,037,601. Fuel injection engines. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Feb. 18, 1964 [March 28, 1963], No. 6633/64. Heading F1B. In a fuel injection, spark ignition engine with air swirl in the cylinder, the fuel is injected so as not to impinge on the cylinder walls and to form, at first load, a localised ignitable charge which is ignited after injection has been terminated, the engine output being controlled by varying the fuel supply without throttling the air supply. The combustion chamber 18 is formed in the piston and the plane containing the spark plug 15 and feed injector 14 is at right angles to the plane through the inlet and exhaust valves.
