1281271 Exciting alternators F CONTELL 14 April 1970 17626/70 Heading H2A In an A.C. generating plant installed in a locomotive driven by traction induction motors and in order to control the voltage generated by the alternator's exciter, the latter is separately excited by another, smaller, exciter ME, which is a constant speed shunt dynamo to where external circuit is connected a resistance of value approximately equal to that of the main exciter field winding CD connected across the ends of the resistance and which resistance is divided into equal or different value sections; the winding CD is similarly divided, with taps taken from the division points and connected to those of the resistance and at all the interconnections are provided switches A, B, 1 ... 6 manipulation of which, in sequence, enables all the resistance sections to be open-circuited and all the field winding sections to be substituted, or vice versa.
