582,573. Control of D.C. motors. WHEELER, H. D., and MOSSAY, P. A. H. Jan. 7, 1944, No. 357. Drawings to Specification. [Class 38 (iii)] Reversing. In a Ward-Leonard system, reversal of the motor is effected quickly and with substantially uniform deceleration and acceleration by suitable design and control of two generator field windings, one of which is a self-excited shunt winding and the other is separately excited. The supply to the latter is reversed to reverse the motor and. at the same time, a resistance in the self-excited field is short circuited by the mechanical closure of a switch. This switch opens electro-magnetically, after reversal, to remove the short circuit when the generator attains a voltage equal to that which it had before reversal. Operating characteristic curves (not shown) are given.
