Abstract

1279947 Non-linear resistance PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [5 March 1970] 22844/71 Heading H1K A varistor has a sintered ceramic body consisting mainly of titanium dioxide and containing also 0À005-0À1 mol. bismuth oxide and 0À001-0À05 mol. antimony oxide per mol. of titanium dioxide. An oxide of lead, barium, strontium, or calcium may also be present at a quantity of up to 0À1 mol. per mol. of titanium oxide. The component oxides or precursors thereof are mixed together, pressed with an organic binder, and sintered in air for, in the examples, 5, 10, or 30 minutes at 1400‹ or 1490‹ C. Electrodes are formed by first layers of NiCr20 alloy and second layers of solder, and connecting leads are soldered to these.
