Abstract

1312143 Varistors MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 2 July 1970 [2 July 1969(2) 4 July 1969(3) 1 Sept 1969(6)] 32182/70 Heading H1K A varistor comprises a sintered body consisting principally of zinc oxide with 0À05- 10 mol per cent of iron oxide and 0À05-10 mol per cent of one of the group comprising nickel oxide, titanium oxide, magnesium oxide, manganese oxide, chromium oxide, cobalt oxide, barium oxide, strontium oxide, beryllium oxide, cadmium oxide and lead fluoride, and has a plurality of electrodes, at least one of which contains silver. The silver-containing electrodes are applied in the form of paint and also contain small proportions of boric oxide, silicon dioxide, cobalt oxide or manganese oxide, and bismuth oxide or lead oxide. Other electrodes may be of aluminium or nickel. The varistor is embedded or coated in epoxy or phenol resin. Examples of varistor compositions and methods of preparing these compositions are given
