Abstract
1450581 Varistor compositions TOKYO SHIBAURA ELECTRIC CO Ltd 11 Sept 1973 [11 Sept 1972 (2) 18 Sept 1972] 42576/73 Heading C1J [Also in Division H1] A varistor comprises a body prepared from a basic composition consisting of 70-40 mol per cent total of one or more of TiO 2 , SnO 2 and ZrO 2 , 29-85 mol per cent ZnO, and 1-20 mol per cent Sb 2 O 3 to which is added (based on the weight of the basic composition) 1-20 wt. per cent Bi 2 O 3 and 0À5-10 wt. per cent total of one or more of Fe 2 O 3 , Cr 2 O 3 , Mn 2 O 3 , and CO 2 O 3 . Control compositions disclosed extend these ranges. As described the components are mixed, sintered at 600-900 C., powdered, mixed with binder (polyvinylalcohol), pressed to disc form (e.g. at 10<SP>3</SP> kg. cm.<SP>-2</SP>) sintered in air at 1000- 1300 C. for 1-6 hours and provided with Ag or In-Ga electrodes baked on at (for Ag) 400- 800 C.
