Abstract
1290945 Ceramics MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 24 Feb 1970 [24 Feb 1969 7 March 1969 15 Aug 1969 (4)] 8899/70 Heading C1J [Also in Division H1] A varistor has a sintered body containing 0À05-10 mol per cent of La 2 O 3 and/or Y 2 O 3 , optionally 0À05-8 mol per cent CoO and/or MnO, the remainder being ZnO, one or both of the electrodes being formed by the application of a silver paint which is fired-on at 300-900‹ C. in air or oxygen. The body may be produced by sintering the components at 1100-1450‹ C. for 1-3 hours in air followed by furnace-cooling to room temperature (or followed by air quenching if a lower resistivity is desired). Sintering in nitrogen or argon gives a product of lower resistivity. A preliminary calcining of the components at 700-1000‹ C. may be employed before the mixture is crushed, pressed and sintered.
