Abstract

1390279 Manganese zinc ferrites SIEMENS AG 26 Oct 1972 [28 Dec 1971] 49356/72 Heading C1J Manganese-zinc ferrite are produced by mixing and milling starting materials comprising Fe 2 O 3 , MnO, ZnO and 0À5-2À0 mole per cent of TiO 2 with the addition of 0À02-0À1% by wt. of the starting materials of CaO (or an equivalent quanity of another Ca compound(s) convertible to CaO on heating, e.g. CaCO 3 ) and of 0À02- 0À3% by weight of the starting materials of Co 2 O 3 (or an equivalent quantity of another to compound(s) convertible to Co 2 O 3 on heating), pressing the milled mixture to form cones or other shaped articles, sintering and cooling. The starting materials may be pre-sintered prior to addition of additives. In one embodiment the heating to sintering temperature, the sintering, and cooling steps are in an inert atmosphere containing less than 10 p.p.m. of oxygen. In another embodiment, the sintering is at 1000‹ to 1300‹ C. and in an atmosphere containing no more than 5 vol. per cent of O 2 , and in the cooling step the oxygen content to 20 p.p.m. at 800‹ C. and below.
