Abstract

1494565 Magnetic transducer head SONY CORP 3 March 1975 [9 March 1974] 8786/75 Heading C1M [Also in Division B3] A ferrite magnetic transducer head is made by: (a) placing two ferrite core blocks with a gap therebetween; (b) placing a vitreous sealing material in close proximity to the gap; and (c) melting the material under a non-oxidizing atmosphere (e.g. N 2 ) so that the material flows into the gap; the vitreous sealing material having been prepared by melting under a non-oxidizing atmosphere a glass containing at least one of PbO, B 2 O 3 , Bi 2 O 3 and N 2 O in a total amount of more than 30 wt. per cent, the glass having a softening point less than 750‹ C., the glass being mixed with 3-15 wt. per cent (based on the amount of glass) of at least one additive in powder form selected from Cu, Cu 2 O and ZnO. The glass may optionally include Al 2 O 3 , V 2 O 5 and/or GeO 2 . Oxygen is said to be absorbed, in making the head, by oxidation of the Zn, Cu, or Cu 2 O.
