Abstract
1,056,315. Magnetic compositions. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Aug. 28, 1964 [Aug. 29, 1963], Heading H1H. In preparing an Mn Zn ferrite (which may contain a small quantity of CaO) oxides of Fe and Zn are presintered, the product is mixed with a manganese component of which a major proportion is manganese carbonate, and the mixture pressed into shape and sintered. The CaO may be incorporated with the initial mixture or with the MnCO 3 as CaCO 3 and may constitute up to 0À2% by weight. The ferrite comprises 58 mol. per cent, 35 mol. per cent MnO, 7 mol. per cent ZnO. Presintering takes place between 850‹ and 950‹ C. Sintering takes place between 1150‹ and 1350‹ C. in a nitrogen atmosphere containing oxygen and is slowly cooled (100‹ C./hr.) the O 2 content of the atmosphere being reduced during cooling. The manganese component may comprise up to 25% oxide and the remainder carbonate.
