Abstract

1341368 Positive temperature coefficient resistors MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 20 June 1972 28758/72 Heading H1K The positive temperature coefficient of resistance of a barium titanate based ceramic is increased by coating it with a silver compound and/or a lithium compound, which is the oxide or is convertible to it by heating above 700‹ C. in an oxidizing atmosphere, and then heating in an oxidizing atmosphere at from 700‹-1200‹ C. The titanate, which includes niobium, bismuth, antimony or a rare earth element such as lanthanum to provide the positive coefficient may have its Curie point adjusted by substitution of lead and tin for part of the barium and titanium respectively. The lithium and silver compounds, examples of which are given, may be applied in the molten form, as a paste or solution, or as a powder, any excess being removed after the heating is completed. Various examples are described in details.
