Abstract
1279709 Graft polymerization process INRESCOR AG FUR INDUSTRIELLE FORSCHUNG UND STRAHLENNUTZUNG 21 Aug 1969 [27 Aug 1968] 41856/69 Heading C3G A monomer is graft polymerized on to a substrate comprising a polyester, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile or polyolefin using high-energy ionizing radiation or U.V. radiation, the monomer and substrate being at a reaction temperature in the glass transition temperature range of the polymer forming the substrate. In the examples, (a) polyethylene glycol terephthalate fabric or yarn, polyester foil, polyhexamethylene adipamide fabric, polyamide-6 fabric or modified polyacrylonitrile fabric is grafted with itaconic acid and acrylamide in an aqueous medium, the grafted foil being dyed, (b) polyethylene glycol terephthalate fabric is grafted with itaconic acid and 4-vinyl pyridine in an aqueous medium, the grafted fabric being quaternized with dimethyl sulphate and (c) polypropylene fabric is grafted with styrene in solution in chloroform.
