Abstract

1389572 Coated parisons DOW CHEMICAL CO 25 May 1972 [26 May 1971] 24770/72 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions B2 and B8] A rigid or semi-rigid hollow plastics article, e.g. a parison for blow-moulding is internally coated by spraying or brushing a synthetic resin solution or dispersion into the article, spinning it at a rate of at least 100 r.p.m. to distribute the solution or dispersion uniformly and drying the coating by heating while continuing to spin the article. The article may be of polystyrene, polyethylene, polypropylene, acrylonitrilestyrene or ABS copolymer, polyacrylonitrile or polyvinylchloride, which materials may be multiaxially oriented. The resin coating may be of polyvinylidene chloride or fluoride, vinylidene chloride copolymer with acrylonitrile and/or methylmethacrylate, polyacrylonitrile, polyvinyl chloride, fluorocarbon polymer, polyamide polyolefin or epoxy resin. An adhesive or tie coating may be applied before the resin coating. Drying of the coating is effected by infra-red, dielectric or microwave heating or by blowing hot air into the article. The parison may be made of polystyrene or polyethylene, coated with vinylidene chloride/acrylonitrile copolymers. The article may also be frusto-conical or cylindrical.
