Abstract
1,174,985. Coated articles. STAMICARBON N.V. 10 May, 1967 [14 May, 1966], No. 21675/67. Heading B2K. [Also in Divisions B4 and B5] Blow-moulded thermoplastic articles are treated on their internal surfaces before leaving the blow-moulding machine with an oxidative gas to improve the adhesion between the surface and a coating to be applied on it. The blow-moulding material is preferably a polyolefin e.g. high- or low-density polyethylene, polypropylene, poly(4-methyl pentene-1), or α- olefin copolymers e.g. ethylene/vinyl acetate, ethylene/methyl acrylate. The coating may be polyvinylidene chloride. The oxidative gas preferably contains ozone e.g. a mixture of air or oxygen and ozone. The ozone may be produced by a corona discharge inside the article. An accelerator, preferably chlorine, but also bromine, nitrous oxide, hydrogen chloride or hydrogen bromide may be included in the gas in a concentration lower than that of the ozone.
