Abstract

788,513. Moistureproof coated films. BRITISH CELLOPHANE, Ltd. March 7, 1956 [March 29, 1955], No. 9077/55. Addition to 675,475. Class 140. The process of the parent Specification is modified by using a normally solid polyethylene as the moistureproofing coating. Preferably the polyethylene has a molecular weight between 14000.and 44000 and a softening point of at least 100‹ C. It may be applied to the hydrophilic base film treated with a urea- or thiourea-formaldehyde precondensate by passing the film through a solution of the plastic in a hot chlorinated hydrocarbon such as o-dichlorbenzene or by spraying. In another modification the polyethylene is extruded as a thin sheet and led together with the base film through nip rollers. Specification 721,714 also is referred to.
