Abstract

A solid, bridged thermoplastic polyethylene is prepared by heating polyethylene with a polysulfonazide R(SO2N3)x, wherein x is from 2 to 8, the amount of polysulfonazide being such as to result in a product containing 0.001 to 0.075% by weight of the bridged polymer of sulfonamide bridges. Optional ingredients are polyisobutylene, butyl rubber, ethylene/propylene copolymer or terpolymer and 4,41-thio-bis-(3-Me-6-t-Bu phenol).
