Abstract

1278022 Grafted polypropylene ATOMIC ENERGY OF CANADA Ltd 5 Feb 1970 [21 Feb 1969] 5621/70 Heading C3G [Also in Division D1] Polypropylene is impregnated with a solution in an anhydrous alcohol of an unsaturated organic monomer containing at least one hydrophilic group or a mixture thereof with styrene and the impregnated polypropylene is subjected to high energy radiation to effect graft polymerization on said polypropylene. In examples, a roll of polypropylene fabric is soaked in a methanol solution of methacrylic acid or acrylamide or a mixture thereof with styrene and subjected to gamma radiation. The resulting fabric is dyed.
