Abstract
Filaments consisting of polymer with acid or basic positions and containing >=50 weight % acrylonitrile units, and which are present as an aqs. gel and have a primary swelling ratio >=60%, are treated with an aqs. dye soln. which contains at least one dye having high affinity for the filament-forming polymer. The relative rates of movement of the aqs. dye soln. and the filaments are chosen so that the time required for 50% exhaustion of the dye-solution is at least 5 secs. Pref. filament or filament tow produced by dry- or wet- spinning is treated with dye-solution while washed with water.
