[Also in Division C3] A process for increasing the compressive strength and decreasing the permeability of preformed solid concrete bodies comprises impregnating the solid concrete bodies with a monomer and subjecting the impregnated body to ionizing radiation to polymerize the monomer contained therein. Monomers are ethylene, ethylene/sulphur dioxide mixtures, methyl methacrylate, styrene, vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate or mixtures and can contain dyes, or solvents to enhance penetration.
