Abstract

The dyeability of textile fibres made from C2-C8 monoolefin polymers is improved by grafting them with one or more monomers of the formula <FORM:1032505/C3/1> wherein R is hydrogen or methyl, X is halogen, hydroxy, acrylate, methacrylate or a C1-C4 alkyl radical and n has an average value between 18 and 200. The grafting may be achieved by means of peroxycatalysts, ozonization of the polyolefin, or under the influence of actinic of high energy radiation. The monomer may be applied to the textile fibres in undiluted form or in the form of a dispersion or solution. The examples describe grafting polyethylene glycol 600 methyl ether acrylate from aqueous suspension on to (1) ozonized polypropylene fibres, and (2) polypropylene fibres under the influence of an electron beam.
