Abstract

1279680 Primer compositions DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 5 Aug 1969 [5 Aug 1968] 39244/69 Heading C1D A primer composition comprises ammonium or alkali metal nitrate or perchlorate, 2-10% by weight of an organic plasticizer-free binder, and 20-25% by weight of boron. The binder may be a polyepoxide, polyester, polyurethane, polyolefin, silane, siloxane, cellulose derivative, or rubber. The boron may be present as an alloy or intermetallic compound with Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Co or Ni. The composition may be granular and may also contain nitrocellulose, lime, starch, gum arabic, calcium fluoride, magnesium oxide, and stearates or waxes. An example is a mixture of amorphous boron, potassium nitrate, and a binder consisting of toluylene diisocyanate-butane-1,4-diol prepolymer and methylenebis-(o-chloroaniline). To form a propellant igniter charge, the primer composition may be mixed with black powder or single or double base nitrocellulose powder.
