Abstract

1,252,497. Propellants. MESSERSCHMITTBOLKOW-BLOHM G.m.b.H. 20 Jan., 1969 [20 Jan., 1968], No. 3193/69. Heading C1D. A solid propellant for combined rocket and ram jet propulsion units includes an oxidant and a basic compound (or a salt thereof) having an atomic H/C ratio of 8 : 1 to 4 : 1 and an atomic N/C ratio of 8 : 1 to 3 : 1, the oxidant being in deficient amount. Suitable compounds specified are 4-amino-dihydrazino-1,2,4-triazole thiocyanate and cyanide, and triamino-guanidine cyanide. Di-hydrazino-dicyano-di-imine may be added to increase combustion temperature. The oxidant used is ammonium perchlorate. Other ingredients are Be, Mg, Al, B, Zr, hydrides of Li, Na, Be, K, NaAlH 4 , borates of Li, Na, K, Be, alkyls of Li, Na, K, Be, Al, Mg, Zn, dispersions of Li, Na, K, ferrocenes, nickelocenes, cobaltacenes, softening agent, e.g. a terpene resin or castor oil, catalyst e.g. copper chromite, hardening agent e.g. an amine, and surfactant. Also present is a binding agent, for examlpe polybutadiene or epoxide resin together with a modified terpene.
