Abstract

1359610 Gas - generating compositions; ammonium iodate and decomposition products thereof USA ARMY SECRETARY OF 19 Nov 1965 [21 May 1965] 49226/65 Headings C1A and C1D A gas-generating charge comprises compacted ammonium iodate or a cured mixture of ammonium iodate and an organic polymeric binder. Suitable binders are the copolymer of polybutadiene and acrylic acid, carboxyl-terminated polybutadiene, epoxy resins, liquid polysulphides, and nylon. Minor amounts of ammonium nitrate, ammonium perchlorate, and hydrazine nitrate may also be present. The charges burn slowly at a low temperature and may be used for driving small turbines on missiles. The ammonium iodate decomposes into nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen iodide.
