Abstract

1278375 Papermaking SHIZUOKA-KOGYO CO Ltd 28 July 1970 36374/70 Heading D2A A multi-ply paper machine has ply-forming units comprising wire cylinder 1, wrapped by wire 11 and felt 13; headbox 2 for feeding stock onto a horizontal portion of wire 11 into a nip between wire and felt; suction means 12 outside the cylinder 1 but inside the wire loop 11 and couch roll 5 at the outgoing nip, and suction box 7 on the opposite side of the felt to the wire-contacting side, downstream of the couch roll 5 to retain the web on the felt. Feed rolls 4, and wire cylinder 1 may also be suction rolls, and, at the end of multi-ply formation, the felt 13 may carry the web to the nip between suction press rolls 15 and 16. Rolls 8 may be doctored, and provided with a saveall to collect broke. Water sprays may be provided to clean wire 11 and cylinder 1.
