Abstract

1276842 Strip moulding CREATORS Ltd 18 Aug 1969 [16 Aug 1968] 39414/68 Heading B6G A decorative trim strip comprises a substrate of a desired cross-section consisting of an extrusion of a plastics material possessing -relatively high resistance to deformation under heat (temperatures of 100‹ C. or more) to the front face of which is bonded a metal strip or a metallized plastics strip. The strip laminated to the substrate may be aluminium foil, or preferably a metallized plastics film formed by spraying or vacuum depositing a metal, e.g. aluminium on to a translucent or transparent plastics film. The metal layer may be laminated between two strips of plastics film. The trim strip may be produced by (1) laminating metallized plastics film strip on to an extruded substrate by pressure as the substrate is extruded and if desired, applying a protective layer of thermoplastics material optionally incorporating a U.V. absorber as a calendered film which is bonded to the front face by adhesive or heat welding, or extruded directly on to the strip, or (2) laminating metallized plastics film to the front face of the substrate using an adhesive. As shown in Fig. 1, a trim strip comprises an extruded substrate 1 of acrylonitrile-butadienestyrene polymer, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, nylon or polypropylene and an aluminized film 2 of clear polyvinylchloride or polyester film backed with polyvinylchloride foil. A protective layer 3 of clear polyvinyl chloride or cellulose acetate butyrate is disposed over the front face. The strip can be snapped over clips, buttons secured to a vehicle body.
