857,814. Coated fabrics. ANSELM, A. C. July 1, 1959 [July 1, 1958], No. 21023/58. Class 140. A decorative plastic extrusion comprises a transparent or translucent plastic material within which is embedded a layer of a tarnishable or corrodible metal, e.g. aluminium, so as to be visible through a front face of the extrusion, wherein the metal layer is applied in close surface contact on the surface of a strip of transparent or translucent plastic foil which is embedded in the extrusion with the plastic foil facing the front face of the extrusion, whereby that surface of the metal layer which is applied against the foil is seen through the front face of the extrusion. The metal foil or layer may be laminated between transparent or translucent plastic foils and the laminate embedded in the extrusion. The extrusion may be produced by first laminating the metal foil or layer under pressure between two layers of transparent or translucent plastic so that the laminµ become closely pressed against the metal, and then feeding the laminate as an insert into translucent or transparent plastic material as it is extruded. The laminate may be formed by the application of heat and pressure and may be cut into strips prior to insertion into the extrusion. Spaced strips of metal foil may be laminated between layers of plastic and may be cut into strips between the strips of metal foil prior to insertion in the extrusion. Again, a metal coating may be formed, e.g. by spraying or vacuum-deposition, on the surface of a plastic foil which may be in the form of a strip or the coated plastic foil may be cut into strips, prior to insertion into the extrusion. A second plastic foil may be laminated to the coated surface of the plastic foil and the laminate may be cut into strips prior to insertion into the extrusion. The extrusion may have any desired cross-section. Plastics specified are polyvinyl chloride, lurex, " Melinex," " Terylene," and " Mylar " (Registered Trade Marks).
