Abstract
1275215 Metal clad switchgear structures; isolating switches COQ NV 1 July 1970 [27 Feb 1970] 31910/70 Heading H1N In a metal-clad switchgear a double-break isolating switch comprises three angularly spaced fined contacts 2, 3 and 8 engaged by two electrically connected and mechanically coupled movable contact rods 4 and 5, which are at an angle, other than 180 degrees, to one another. As shown, the contact rods, which are at 90 degrees to each other, are supported by a metal support 6 secured within the metal casing 1 by an insulator 7. A rotatable shaft 9 operates the contact rods, via respective bevel gearing 10, 11, 15 and screw spindles 12 and 16, such that in the isolator open position shown, contact rod 4 engages earthed fined contact 8. In Figs. 2 to 4 (not shown), the contact rods are mechanically coupled by means of a crank arm, while in Figs. 5 to 9 (not shown) they are coupled by means of respective crank and pin-and-slot mechanisms. A further fined contact may be provided such that both contact rods engage a fined contact in either of their two positions. One or more contacts may be earthed or connected to different bus-bar systems such that the isolator switch may act as a changeover switch.
