Abstract

1275108 Hot water boilers B HIRANO 5 June 1969 [5 June 1968] 28405/69 Heading F4A A boiler has a number of heat exchange tubes 8, 9, 10 the flow of water through which is controlled to provide substantially uniform heating in all the tubes. These have end ports 8<SP>1</SP>, 9<SP>1</SP>, 10<SP>1</SP> supplied with water via ports 12<SP>1</SP> leading to water spaces 4, 5, Fig. 1, formed within double end walls of the boiler. The lower tubes have the greater number of end ports, the mass flow of water and hence the thermal capacity being consequently greater for these tubes. The boiler is fired by a burner 2 and the combustion gases rise between the tubes; the water temperature rise in all the tubes is substantially the same due to the smaller thermal capacity of the higher tubes. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the water spaces 4, 5 are replaced by vertical tubes (13), (14) and the heat exchange tubes each have a single port at opposite ends, the diameter of these ports being largest in the lower tubes.
