Abstract

[Also in Division D1] A variable stroke reciprocating drive for a yarn guide 15 of a textile winding machine comprises two racks 9, 11 slidably mounted in a carriage 4 for movement at right angles to one another, their teeth intermeshing and being inclined to their axes so that movement of the rack 11 in a direction normal to the direction of movement of the carriage 4 causes movement of the rack 9 relative to the carriage in a direction parallel to the direction of carriage movement. A rotary cam 1 on a shaft 2 reciprocates the carriage 4 along slide bars 5, 6. A follower roller 16 on the back of the rack 11 engages an adjustably inclined stationary guide 13 so that as the carriage moves, the rack 11 is caused to move an amount dependent on the inclination of the guide 13, thus moving the rack 9 relative to the carriage. A rod 14 rigid with the rack 9 carries the yarn guide 15. With the guide 13 parallel with the rack teeth, the rack 9 remains stationary during movement of the carriage. With the guide 13 parallel with the slide bars 5, 6, the rack 9 moves bodily with the carriage.
