[Also in Division C5] A liquid hydrocarbon composition comprises a crude oil or petroleum residual oil and a minor amount by wt. sufficient to improve its fluidity characteristics of an ester of a copolymer of maleic anhydride and vinyl acetate or vinyl methyl ether. The ester may be made by reacting the copolymer with an alcohol containing at least 20 C atoms, e.g. behenyl or eicosanyl alcohol, which may be a mixture of l-hexadeeanol, l-oetadeeanol, l-eieosanol, 1- docosanol, and/or l-tetraeosanol.
