Abstract

1,273,456. Electro-photography. XEROX CORP. Oct. 14, 1970 [Oct. 20, 1969], No. 48786/70. Heading G2H. In cascade development apparatus, magnetic carrier/toner developer flows down between a xerographic drum and an aluminium roll containing stationary magnets which attract the carrier to the roll except in the development zone, the carrier then being admixed with further toner and recycled under the action of the roll. A plurality of rolls in series may be employed. The first (lowest) roll may have a speed of 1À5 times that of the second and be spaced # to 5/16 inch therefrom. As shown, toner is dispensed from chute 16 and guide 18 on to an upper roll 41 having a metering device 14 from which roll it flows together with carrier down between a drum 10 and an electrode 22. Mixing is effected in the sump area by augurs 19 and 21.
