Abstract
1,258,781. Electro-photographic apparatus. RANK XEROX Ltd. Jan. 9, 1969 [Jan. 11, 1968], No. 1409/69. Heading G2H. A latent image on a photo-conductive surface 10 is developed by moving the surface in an uphill direction in contact with developer material held in a housing 20, whereby developer material at the interface along the zone of contact moves in an uphill direction and the remaining developer material in the housing moves downwardly to fill the void left by the upwardly moving material, a vertical baffle plate 22 being positioned in the housing in close proximity to the upwardly moving portion of the surface to guide the downward flow of developer material in the housing, and new developer material being dispensed into the return flow of developer material. The photo-conductive surface is formed on a rotatable drum, as shown, or alternatively on an endless belt. New developer material is contained in a hopper 21 formed between the baffle and housing, an apertured dispensing plate 30 closing the bottom. An apertured metering element 32 is slidably mounted below the bottom of the hopper, the apertures in the bottom and metering element being aligned to dispense toner into the developer mix.
