Abstract
1,248,671. Electro-photographic apparatus. RANK XEROX Ltd. Jan.9, 1969 [Jan.11, 1968], No.1412/69. Heading G2H. Xerographic apparatus has a development zone 41 where a latent image bearing xerographic surface is moved in an uphill direction, a housing 20 being positioned in relation to the upwardly moving surface so that developer material within the housing is placed in frictional contact with the moving surface to cause the developer material to flow in an uphill direction, the developer being mixed by a mixer 21 in the housing. The mixer has a number of radially projecting vanes and is rotated at a speed sufficient to aid the flow of developer material through the housing. The rear wall 36 of the housing is made nearly vertical to provide a rapid flow-rate of developer through the system. Fresh toner is added to the developer from a hopper through a fine mesh screen 44 under the action of a rotatable roller 42. Space charge build up in the developer material is eliminated by grounding the mixer. The xerographic surface may be a photo-conductive drum as shown or an endless band.
