Abstract

1,272,326. Making Francis type runners. HITACHI Ltd. 28 Aug., 1969 [2 Sept., 1968], No. 42905/69. Heading B3A. [Also in Division F1] A runner blade 9 for a Francis type hydraulic machine, such as a turbine, is constructed by welding together several sections consisting of pressed steel flanks 10, 15 defining a space A, pressed steel trailing edge sections 12, 17 and a cast steel section 11. The section 17 has a stainless steel overlay 13 explosion welded thereto to reduce erosion caused by cavitation. Steel reinforcing bars may be welded between flanks 10, 15. Each blade 9 is welded to a crown ring 5 comprising a cast steel boss 6 to which are welded inner and outer steel plate ring segments 7, 8.
