Abstract

1,272,280. Annealing silicon steel. BRITISH STEEL CORP. June 1, 1970 [May 22, 1969], No.26237/69. Heading C7A. [Also in Division B3] Soft magnetic sheet or strip is produced from electro-slag refined 3% silicon steel by rolling (see Division B3). The plant variables of the electro-slag refining are controlled to produce an ingot having grains within 10 degrees of the (001) orientation. The refining reduces the sulphur, silicon and oxygen contents of the steel. Examples giving details of electrode and ingot compositions and of the rolling and annealing schedule are given.
