Abstract
1395873 Refining Cr-containing alloys SANDVIK AB 20 Dec 1973 [29 Dec 1972] 59164/73 Heading C7D A melt of a Cr-containing alloy is refined in respect of its C and N contents by addition thereto of at least 1% of Al or an alloy thereof followed by removal of C and Al N and/or Al 2 O 3 . The melt may be of an alloy based on Fe or Ni and may contain Mo and/or Si, and the Al alloy may contain Si, Ba, Ca and/or Mg. It is preferred that the initial melt contain at least 1% C and that the melt temperature should be 1300-1500C. The melt may be formed in an induction furnace.
