Abstract

1,270,824. Electrostatic image forming. EASTMAN KODAK CO. May 16, 1969 [May 20, 1968], No. 25120/69. Heading G2H. An image forming process comprises producing an electrostatic charge image triboelectrically by pressing an insulative sheet into contact with a sheet original to be copied having areas of material removed in the triboelectric series from the insulative sheet and separating the two sheets before rendering the latent image visible using conventional developers. The insulative sheet preferably has a surface resistivity of at least 10<SP>10</SP> per square and has a smooth surface, properties possessed by hydrophobic polymeric resins for example. Suitable originals include ink printed copy, paper bearing ball-point inks or pencil lead, or photographic negatives. Pressures up to 150 psi are applied to the sheets by rolling and to prevent sparking on separation of the sheets conductive backings are supplied for each sheet and electrically connected prior to separation.
