A bracket 8 or 15 is cantilevered from an upright 1 to support shelves or other articles, the upright 1 including a longitudinal bore 2, a longitudinal slot 3 and one or a plurality of spaced apertures 5 which permit fitment of a thickened rear end part of the bracket into sliding engagement along the bore 2, means being provided to releasably lock the bracket to the upright 1 at the desired height. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the inner end of the bracket 8 carries a fixed pin 11 projecting on both sides of the bracket 8 and pivotally carries a slider 12. To fit the bracket 8, the slider 12 is passed through an aperture 5, and then moved along the bore 2 to allow the pin 11 to be similarly engaged in the bore 2. The bracket 8 is then slid along the bore 2 to the desired height at which it is locked by a screw 14 which threadedly engages the slider 12 and bears on the rear wall of the upright 1 to clamp the slider 12 against the front wall 4. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the bracket comprises a strip 15 and a stay 17 with a stud 18 selectively and pivotally engaged in any one of a series of holes 16 in the strip. The inner ends of the strip 15 and stay 17 each carry a lockable slider 12. Inclination of the strip 15 may be adjusted by varying the spacing apart of the sliders 12 and/or by different choice of hole 16 receiving the stud 18. The uprights 1 may be free standing or wall mounted. Two uprights 1 disposed back to back may be formed as a uniting upright.
