Abstract
A tool holder comprises a free standing base 5 forming a framework with a vertically extending post 7. The base may be mobile having wheels 6 attached to it. The post may be extended by having a plurality of sections 8 that can be slotted one on top of the other. Metal brackets 9 are positioned at regular spacings up the post. Shelves 10 are attached to the post in a cantilevered manner by means of tongue-like projections 11 at their rear which cooperate with the brackets. The shelves may have additional support between their underside and the post.
Description
24081 93 improvements In Or Relating To Free oranong Tool Holders Many
various types of tool holders of one kind or another, varying in size from simple waist belt holders housing the various hand tools around the waist giving easy access.
To more sophisticated types normally attached in some way to ladders and the like.
The invention relates to a simple base framework carrying a vertical support member from which are mounted shelves cantilevered out from the vertical support column.
These shelves can be of square or rectangular shape and manufactured in various designs and sizes.
The vertical support has pockets as an integral part, spaced at selected intervals over the entire longitudinal length.
"Tongue" like sections extending downwards on the underside "rear" of the shelves permitting them to be secured in position within a predetermined pocket within the vertical member, providing a vertical arrangement of shelves at predetermined distances from the base structure to the highest point. This will vary dependent upon the design and number of shelves. The base framework can have wheel assemblies such that ease of positioning can be achieved.
By reason of the optional varying lengths of the vertical member, it would be Necessary to support the "top" end of the vertical column, for stability if the overall height from base level was such that it was intended to be used in conjunction with ladders and the like.
By nature of the design and construction not requiring special tools for assembly, the entire structure can be reduced in size and volume such that it would provide flat - pack packaging facilitating easy storage.
An important aspect at point of sale in DIY stores and supermarkets.
By way of the following description and drawings one aspect of the invention will be set out.
Fig 1 Isometric view of tool holder Fig 2 Detail of pocket Fig 3 Detail of shelf Fig 4 Detail of joint for vertical column Item 5 Fig 1 shows the base framework manufactured from a hollow metal section either in the shape of a square or rectangular form. - 1
Item 6 are wheel assemblies either with or without brake facility secured to the base framework Item 5 such that they become an integral part.
A vertical column Item 7 Fig 1 manufactured from hollow section having a specified dimension depicted by the dimension "X" and secured by weld to the base framework item 5.
Further members Items 8 Fig l and 4 can be secured within both the lower section 7, also slotted together in a telescopic like manner, dependent upon the overall design height of the vertical column or member.
Item 9 Figs 1 and 2 are pockets, (and for this description only) are manufactured from sheet metal pressings and spot - welded to the vertical member sections Items 8 Fig l, at specified heights relative to each other.
Shelves Items l O Fig l and 3 are secured in position (three only are used in this description, shelves of varying number can be provided dependent on the design
specification)
The shelves Items 10 have "tongue" like projections Item 1 1 Fig 3, which project vertically downwards at the rear underside of the shelf.
HEY wit depicted by dimension "W" of the "tongue" is compatible with the inside dimensional width of the pockets item 9 Fig 1 and 2, such that secure location of the shelves within the respective pockets maintains positive location.
Additional support to the shelf providing reaction to the cantilever like attitude of the shelves is provided by a further member (not shown), attached and pivotally mounted to the underside of each shelf and supported at the opposite end in a corresponding pocket Item 9 Fig 1 and 2 positioned below the shelf.
For stability the base framework can be of "H" formation as shown by chain dotted outline in Fig 1.
All material specifications and dimensions can vary and at all times will satisfy the respective design criteria dependent on size and overall height.
Finally, the base of the respective shelves can have "slots" and "holes" (not shown) to give both locations and ease of accessibility, for example screwdrivers, chisels and hand tools which would tend to roll or move easily on a flat surface. - 2
Claims (9)
1. A free standing tool holder consisting of a base framework either that of square or rectangular shape. A vertical column or member consisting of modular sections fitting in a telescopic type attitude to each other providing varying height of the column relative to the base. The vertical column provides attachment locations for shelves.
2. The base framework claim l alternatively could be that of a 'H' section providing improved stability.
3. Wheel assemblies may be provided and attached to the underside of the base framework claims I. And 2. this will facilitate ease of manoeuvrability giving static location when required by using brake type wheel assemblies.
4. Shelves are fitted to the vertical column member claim I. By 'tongue' like projections which project downwards at the rear underside of each shelf. The tongues' are compatible in size to 'pockets' located and positioned on the vertical column.
5. Additional stability and support ofthe shelves claim 4. are provided by hinged strap' members attached to the underside of each shelf which by pivotable angular movement towards the vertical column and retained in position by dimensionally compatible 'pocket'. This will provide a structural 'strut' support to the shelves which without support would have been in a true cantilever attitude.
6. As in claim 4. a corresponding selection or quantity/ number of shelves could be arranged at the opposite side of the vertical column claim I. in particular if the base framework was that of 'H' section as in claim 2. providing extra stability and counter balance.
7. The base of either one or more of the shelves claim 4 can be provided with 'slots' or holes which will give positive location and ease of accessibility for hand tools and tooling aids.
8. By nature of the design and construction of the aforesaid tool holder claims 1-7 not requiring special tools for assembly the entire structure can be reduced in size and volume providing flat-pack packaging for easy storage and point of sale advantage for D.l.Y stores.
9. All technical aspects and data contained within the aforesaid description and drawings relating to claims 1-8.
