Abstract
1,267,770. Temperature responsive switches. AMF Inc. 2 June, 1970 [13 June, 1969], No. 26485/70. Heading HlN. In a thermal switch the fixed contact 20 can, during manufacture, be turned about an axis perpendicular to, but displaced to one side of, the path of the movable contact 18 so as to adjust the operating temperature. The switch has a tubular metal casing 10 forming one terminal; a cable 28 is welded to an extension of the casing. One end of the casing 10 is closed and contains members 12, 14 which clamp the end of a snap acting bimetal blade 16. The blade carries the movable contact 18 at a point displaced from the axis of the tubular casing. The other end of the casing 10 is closed by an insulating block 30 in which the fixed contact 20 is embedded; a second cable 24 is welded to contact 20. The switch is set to the desired operating temperature by turning block 30 in the casing and then sealed with synthetic resin. In a modification (Figs. 3, 5, not shown) the block 30 is fixed and the contact rotates in it, both the axis of rotation of the fixed contact and the path of the moving being displaced, on opposite sides, from the axis of the casing which in this case is rectangular. This arrangement provides a greater range of adjustment.
