Abstract
1,136,888. Thermal switches. DANFOSS A.S. 18 April, 1967 [29 April, 1966], No. 17759/67. Heading H1N. [Also in Division G1] A bi-metal operating device for a switch 14 comprises operating means constrained for displacement by at least one bi-metallic element in a first plane and an ambient temperature compensatory bi-metallic element 16 displaceable in a second plane normal to the first plane, the operating means having an edge 23 adapted to engage the compensatory bi-metallic element. As shown, in an overload relay, three bi-metallic elements 2, 3, 4 are connected to terminals 5, 6, 7 of a three phase mains network and the operating means comprises slides 8, 9 which actuate a pivoted rocker arm 10. Movement of any one or all of the elements 2-4 displaces the slide 8 which therefore causes the rocker arm to pivot about the point 12 and operate the switch 14. The element 16 is U-shaped and has a stop 15 which engages the inclined edge 23 of the slide 9. The position of the stop is adjustable in the plane of movement of the slide by a screw 18 and in a direction normal to this plane by a pointer 20, the element 16 pivoting about the screw. Movement of the stop therefore adjusts the position of the slide 9 and the excess current necessary to operate the switch is given by the position of the pointer on a scale 21. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) for a single phase excess current responsive device, the inclined edge is formed on the rocker arm and a straight compensatory bi-matallic element is incorporated.
