Abstract

1,267,454. Valves. ZYROTRON INDUSTRIES Inc. 22 April, 1969, No. 20417/69. Heading F2V. Energization of electric heating element 84 causes expansion of material 102 in cylinder 90 and, due to piston 98 abutting the cross-bar 48 of a fixed bridgepiece, the cylinder is displaced vertically upwards. A bracket 58 in sliding engagement with the cross-bar 48 and the vertical limbs of the bridgepiece transmits the displacement of cylinder 90 to stem 44 of valve member 26 to unseat the latter. Resilient flange 32 of the valve member 26 provides a return bias. The heating element is encapsulated in a ceramic material which stores the heat generated. Flange 32 can be replaced by a snap-over diaphragm, and valve member 26 may alternatively be in the form of a sliding gate. The expansible material is adapted to expand and contract rapidly at a particular temperature.
