Abstract

1,267,255. Photo-electrophoretic imaging. XEROX CORP. Aug. 18, 1969 [Aug.20, 1968], No.41047/69. Heading G2H. In a photo-electrophoretic imaging process, wherein a suspension 4 of electrically photosensitive particles is imaged while being subjected to a field between an injecting electrode 1 and a blocking electrode 5, the electrode 5 comprises a conductive roller 11 having a photo-conductive layer 12 which is exposed to a lamp 14 after an imaging cycle to disperse charge on electrode 5 which would cause image deterioration in the next cycle. Electrode 5 may be cleaned with solvent prior to exposure to lamp 14. Lamp 14 may be mounted inside the blocking electrode. The blocking electrode may alternatively comprise a flat plate or a belt entrained over rollers. The photo-conductor 12 is preferably such that cleaning lamp 14 emits different light, e.g. ultraviolet, from imaging lamp 8. Instead of using a potential source 6, electrode 5 may be charged before each imaging cycle and electrode 1 earthed.
