1,267,177. Coating webs. G. RITZERFELD. 21 July, 1970 [29 Sept., 1969], No. 35234/70. Heading D1L. Apparatus for coating webs of paper or plastics material with a layer of fusible material comprises a heated coating application roller, a cooled counter-pressure roller and a heated guide roller. In Fig. 4 a film 57 of pigment is metered by metering roller 10 from screen roller 8 partly immersed in fused pigment 11 contained in heated storage tank 12. Heated application roller 14 coats web 15 with the pigment film while counter-pressure roller 4 is cooled. Guide roller 38 is heated to re-melt the pigment film, resulting in a smooth pigment coating of uniform thickness.
