Abstract
126,678. Freeth, F. A., and Cocksedge, H. E. Feb. 7, 1917. Ammonium nitrate is obtained by preparing a solution saturated with ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, and sodium sulphate at a selected temperature, adding enough water to keep the sodium salts in solution at a selected lower temperature and then cooling the diluted solution to that temperature when ammonium nitrate separates out. The mother-liquor is then concentrated until the added water has been removed, and quantities of ammonium sulphate and sodium nitrate equivalent to the separated ammonium nitrate are then added, the whole being maintained at a temperature not lower than the original selected temperature. Sodium sulphate separates and is removed, and the whole series of operations can then be repeated indefinitely. Specification 16454/10 is referred to.
