Abstract
Potassium or ammonium carnallite, or a mixture of both, is obtained by adding to the mother liquors from their production molten or crystallized magnesium chloride hexahydrate and potassium or ammonium chloride. When the molten chloride is used the double salt crystallizes out on cooling; in the case when the unmelted crystals are used stirring is effected for an hour and the mother liquor then separated. The mother liquors may be used continuously without evaporation.
