Abstract

112,491. Ehrhardt, E. F., and Ehrhardt, H. W. Jan. 5, 1917. Sodium and potassium hydrosulphites.-In the production of anhydrous hydrosulphites by treatment of the hydrated crystals with brine as described in Specification 8816/05, the motherliquor after separating the anhydrous hydrosulphite, is, while still hot, sufficiently saturated by the addition of more sodium chloride and then cooled, when crystals of hydrosulphite separate out and are recovered by decanting the motherliquor. The crystals are then converted into the anhydrous salt by treatment in accordance with the process described in Specification 8816/05, either alone or together, with a fresh batch of crystals. Ammonium hydrosulphite may be prepared in this manner.
